  • Not getting Pre-Approved: Getting pre-approved is very important. This should be done before you view homes with an agent. Getting pre-approved provides confirmation that you will be able to purchase the home and that you are aware of all other potential costs.
  • Not checking out the neighborhood: Taking a drive through a neighborhood before you view homes can save a lot of time. Knowing what areas appeal to you before you view homes is key.
  • Not working with an agent: On the buying side it should not cost you anything to work with an agent. So why not take advantage of this and hire a professional to work in your corner. Not working with an agent who is experienced and knowledgeable can back fire on you should you make a mistake.
  • Not getting the right home: Purchasing a home that does not meet most of your needs is detrimental. It can leave you miserable with buyers remorse. Make sure if you are looking for a specific style home that you do not settle.
  • Choosing the wrong agent: Choosing the wrong agent can really make the process more stressful than it already is. Make sure you jive well with your agent and that they have your best interests first.
  • Buying the first house you see: This is subjective because you might fall in love with the first home you see. It is highly recommended that you actually see some other homes to be sure you are making the right decision.
  • Being too indecisive: Not knowing what style home you want, not sure what neighborhood you like, or zig zagging all over the place is not a good idea when it comes to home shopping. Know what you are looking for in your next home before working with an agent.
  • Not thinking of resale value: it can be fun getting into a home and making it your own. But it is very smart to keep in mind what the resale may be like should you have to sell it sooner than you were planning.
  • Not hiring a professional inspector: Hiring a professional inspector can make or break your purchase. A qualified inspector can spot things you would never see. Hiring a professional is a must when purchasing a home.
  • Expecting everything from a home: While you should purchase a home that covers most of your need list be, you want to make sure that you are realistic and know that not every home will cover all your needs. Prioritize and choose your top needs and go from there.
